So what does a Virtual NCPR look like?

Registration:  Participants will still be required to register online here.  We’ve set a flat $25 fee for all adult participants, and $15 for youth (age 16 or less).

Fundraising to support our community: When you register, you will be provided with the opportunity to raise monies online for Bruce House.  We would encourage you to do this!  We know this has been a difficult time for everyone, and Bruce House is no exception.  By pursuing additional fundraising efforts, you are helping out one of the most beloved organizations in the National Capital LGBTQ2S community at a time when it needs your help.  And, if you raise $200 or more, you will get a free registration to the 2021 NCPR!

Run/Walk and Post Your time: During the week of August 21-30, you will need to run a 5km route, or walk a 2.5km route.  When you do, record your time on your smartphone or watch.  You’ll be asked to post your time online, through the ‘It’s Your Race’ platform, so that you can share it with everyone!  (Information on how to post will be sent separately).  If you are running a 5km, you have another option.  In honour of our 5th anniversary, during the month of August, you can run 5, 5km runs.  Record the time for each of the 5 runs, and post your best time!

Dress the Part:  The NCPR is a great opportunity to show us how fabulous you can be.  As in previous years, we’d encourage you to dress in your most colourful, Pride-tastic outfits when you go for your Run/Walk.  When you do, take a photo, and we’ll ask you to share it online (details to follow).  Our judges will choose the best costume, and the top 3 winners will receive a prize!

“Out to Run” Program: We’re pleased to announce that the “Out to Run” program will once again be offered by the Ottawa Frontrunners.  The program will start July 7, and will provide training to participants with the ultimate goal that they complete a 5km Pride Run in August.  There’s no additional cost to participate.  If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact Marcel Forget at [email protected], and he will send you details.

2020 Run/Walk Details

  • Bag Pick Ups: Although the Pride Run and Walk is virtual this year, we have still put together bags for all 2020 participants containing “goodies” from local supporters and LGBTQ+ supportive businesses. We are offering 3 opportunities for you pick up those bags, as follows:

    • Sunday, August 23: Ts Pub, 323 Somerset St, 2-5pm
    • August 24-29: Stroked Ego, 131 Bank Street, 2nd floor: Regular opening hours (see Stroked Ego website for opening hours).
  • Your course and posting your times: You have from August 21 to August 30 to complete your event. There are a few options to complete and record the event you registered for. To complete your event, you have the following options:
    • You can either walk or run your event once and post the time.
    • In honour of our 5th year, you can run or walk your event 5 times and record your best time of the 5.
    • The Ottawa Frontrunners will be hosting a 5km run as part of their regular gathering on Saturday, August 29 at 9am at Ottawa City Hall. This socially distanced run will feature timing which you can then upload.

Click here for an instruction sheet that instructs you on how to use your smart phone to both calculate your exact distance, and how to upload your time.  If you wish to complete your own course and load your time manually, the attached sheet will also explain how to do that. Please complete your event by August 30.

  • Refunds for Registrations paid in US dollars: Because we have used a new registration system this year, some people were mistakenly charged their registration in US dollars. Over the coming days, we will reimburse those of you charged in US dollars the difference via an electronic transfer. Our apologies for the confusion.
  • Music tracks and warm up video: We want to help you get motivated, so in the coming days we will send all 2020 participants a warm up video and several music tracks for your enjoyment.
  • T shirts: In 2019, we debuted t-shirts containing the NCPR logo.  This year, we will make available iron-on decals for any 2020 participant who would like to make their own t-shirt. If you would like a free iron-on decal, please email Daniel at [email protected] and we will ensure you receive a decal.
  • Online auction: You may have seen that as an additional fundraising initiative, the NCPR has launched an online silent auction. The auction will be open until August 21 at 9am.  If you want to bid on some great items, go to the following facebook page, and scroll down to the Posts section to see the individual items. You can then make a bid in the Comment section for each item.  NCPR Online Auction
  • Photos and best dressed award: When doing your run (or runs), we’d encourage you to dress fabulously, take a photo, and post it! You have 2 options to share your photos:
    • Post a picture of you in your colorful running look on Facebook or Instagram and tag us (@NationalCapitalPrideRunon Facebook or @ncpr on Instagram). We’ll re-post these public pictures on the NCPR website. Want to participate but maintain your privacy? Email us your photo to [email protected] and we’ll add your entry in the contest but keep it confidential. You can also email us your photos and ask that it be shared on the website if you’re happy for your entry to be public but you aren’t a social media user.
    • At the end of the Run/Walk period, our panel of esteemed judges will determine the “Best Dressed”, and a prize will be awarded.
  • Bruce House Fundraising: We want to thank all of you who have gone out of your way to raise additional donations for Bruce House. Your efforts have been fantastic! For those of you who have raised $200 or more, we will keep your names on file and you will receive a complimentary registration to the 2021 National Capital Pride Run.
  • A note from our sponsor Ciena: We want to thank our event sponsor, Ciena. In the note to 2020 participants, we will include a video greeting on behalf of Ciena. Not only is Ciena sponsoring the event, they are matching all donations raised!
  • In person celebration:  Although COVID has prevented us from large gatherings, we still want to celebrate you and thank you all in person for your efforts.  Over the coming weeks and months, we will schedule an in person celebratory event to thank you for your participation. We will only do this when it is safe to do so. Watch for more information on that event.
